Generation VIII

John Isham

1460–1517

Life

John Isham was born about 1460, probably at Pytchley, Northamptonshire, a son of William Isham.? In a deed of 21 November 1499 he appears as brother of Thomas Isham of Pytchley and of Alice, children of William Isham.1 He was an uncle of Euseby Isham.?

He was probably the John Isham, mercer and Merchant Adventurer of London, listed among members of the Mercers' Company, who made his will and died in London in August 1517.2,3 The will names his wife Agnes as an executor; his sons John and William, of whom William was still a minor; a daughter Elyn; his sister Agnes Britton; "my poore brother Goodman Issam"; and Master Henry Everard, to whom he may have been apprenticed. It asks for burial "with my children" if he should die in London.3

He is not the John Isham, son of Euseby Isham, who is the subject of "John Isham, Mercer and Merchant Adventurer."?
