Generation XII
Thomas Isham
1600–1669
Life
Thomas Isham of Radclive, Buckinghamshire, and of Wheatfield, Oxfordshire, esquire, son of Sir Euseby Isham and Dame Anne Borlase, was christened on 20 December 1600.1 He and his wife are often named in the letters of the Verney family.? Having compounded on 28 June 1649, lest his estate be sequestered for anything said or done by him in the first civil war, he was fined ten pounds by the parliamentary committee.? His wife's Buckinghamshire connections may explain why he kept house at Radclive, but he was of Wheatfield when he made his will on 1 February 1668/9, which was proved by his son Thomas Isham; in it he named his nephew Edmund Verney of East Claydon.? He died on 6 February 1668/9 and was buried at Wheatfield, where his monument remains.?
His wife, Elizabeth Denton, daughter of Sir Thomas Denton of Hillesden, Buckinghamshire, knight, was christened at Stowe on 6 May 1610 and married him at Pytchley on 28 August 1628.? She died on 20 September 1667 and was buried on 23 September at Hillesden, where she has a monument.? They had two sons and a daughter.?
